A Perthshire school has been targeted by a “hoax threat” just a week after similar calls sparked a nationwide alert.

Crieff Primary School received the call, though the nature of the threat has not been revealed.

Last Tuesday a number of schools in the central belt were evacuated following threats, which police Scotland said “do not appear to be credible”.

Perth High School also received a threat but was not evacuated.

A spokeswoman for Perth and Kinross Council said police were aware but pupils had remained in the building.

She said: “You may be aware that a number of schools across the UK have received hoax threats in recent weeks, none of which have been considered a credible threat by the police. Crieff Primary School has today received such a call.

“On the advice of Police Scotland the school has not been evacuated. Police Scotland have attended the school and we will continue to work closely with them, but do not want to cause unnecessary fear and alarm amongst pupils.

“We want to reassure parents and families that all appropriate measures are being taken and the school continues with business as usual.”

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland confirmed they were investigating.

She said: “Police Scotland is investigating a hoax threat made to a primary school in Perthshire this morning.

“We take hoaxes extremely seriously. They divert police resources and cause disruption and alarm to the public.”
