A lorry was used to steal timber worth thousands of pounds in a late-night Perth break-in.

Thieves broke into a timber merchant at Inveralmond Industrial Estate and drove a HGV into the yard to steal the goods, making off with timber worth thousands of pounds.

It is thought the theft took place between 10.50pm on Saturday and 12.45am on Sunday.

Police appeal

Police have asked that anyone with information comes forward.

A Tayside Police statement said: “We are currently investigating a theft from a timber merchant in the Inveralmond Industrial Estate in Perth, between 10:50pm Saturday 17th and 12:45am Sunday 18th April.

“The yard at the merchant was broken into and an HGV driven into it and a quantity of timber was stolen.

“The exact amount and value has yet to be fully determined but will be well into four figures in value.

“Unfortunately we have no further description of the HGV or of those responsible.

“We would like to take this opportunity to ask all builder’s merchants and timber merchants in the region to check on the security of your premises in case of any further attempts at thefts of this type.”

Those with any information on the theft should speak to any police officer or call 101, quoting reference number 0641 on April 19.

Information can also be submitted via the anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
