Revised Perth path plans attract new complaints

Developers have been accused of a “blatant disregard for residents” after submitting new plans for a residential housing development in Perth.

Despite the revised application proposing to keep a path the previous plans would have obliterated, dozens of locals have continued to voice their concerns.

A proposal to erect three houses on a strip of land between Needless Road and Cavendish Avenue was abandoned last November following a huge public outcry.

Locals believe the path to be a right of way, saying it is used by hundreds of people every day.

Developers Friarton Limited recently submitted new plans, which revised the number of buildings on the site to two in order to maintain a pedestrian thoroughfare.

However the new plans have proved just as contentious as the previous application, with residents concerned about the width of the path and its lighting arrangments.

In a formal objection to Perth and Kinross Council, Denise Taylor said: “The path on which this proposal is based has been a right of way since he houses in Cavendish Avenue and Needless Road were built. It is used as a walkway by children and the elderly to access schools and bus stops. The erection of these houses will prevent this access.

“Application was previously made by this developer for these houses and residents strongly objected.

“The fact that he is reapplying shows a blatant disregard for residents.”

Others expressed concern at the loss of parking, with one resident commenting that he would have difficulty using his private garage as the proposed access path was too narrow.

Councillor Willie Wilson, who had opposed he previous plans, said he hoped the application would come before the council’s development management committee.

He said: “This new application is still meeting with a wide range of comments from local folk . Whilst the second application does provide for a path there are lots of questions regarding how wide it will really be, what the surface is and if it will be lit.

“There is a strong view locally that this site should be retained as open space with the garages retained. In addition extra parking space could be provided that would help ease the acute shortage of parking in Needless Road.

“Other issues raised include the design of the houses and also the impression that the proposed house on the Cavendish Avenue Elevation looks very cramped in a confined space.”

Friarton Limited did not provide a comment after being approached by The Courier.
