Councillor “bitterly disappointed” to hear of threat to T in the Park’s Perthshire future

A Perth councillor has spoken of his “disappointment” that T in the Park may not be staged at Strathallan Castle next year.

Peter Barrett, leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrat group on Perth and Kinross Council, has called on DF Concerts to make a “full and urgent official statement on the future of T in the Park in Perth and Kinross”.

He spoke out after it emerged that talks had been held in Glasgow with a view to a new three-day festival being held on Glasgow Green, rendering T in the Park unlikely for next year.

“Perth and Kinross deserves better than for the news that there may be no T in the Park at Strathallan Castle next year to be leaked out in the manner it has over the weekend,” he said.

“For 20 years Perth and Kinross Council has worked closely with DF Concerts, to manage public health and safety, consumer protection, traffic and transport.

“The council has demonstrated that it has the skills, the capacity and the appetite to deliver large scale cultural sporting and entertainment events by working proactively with event organisers.

“Over the past two decades the number of festival-goers more than doubled at the Balado site and the event grew to a three-day festival with over a quarter of a million visitors generating multi-million-pound profits.

“It is bitterly disappointing to find out second hand via reports from ‘industry insiders’ and ‘sources close to DF Concerts’ that the two events cannot run simultaneously and T in the Park may be called off.”

He urged Geoff Ellis to explain what DF Concerts’ plans are “for the future”.
