A man aged in his 80s was treated by paramedics after he collapsed beside a heavy goods vehicle in Perth city centre.
The accident took place in South Street beside the pedestrian crossing that is located near King Edward Street, shortly before 11.30am, to the horror of passers-by.
Police officers were swiftly in attendance, with the road reduced to one lane.
After a few moments of serious concern, as the casualty lay in the road, witnesses said he had been able to stand.
He was then taken into the back of an ambulance to be checked for injuries by medical staff.
It was initially thought he had been struck by the lorry but police later confirmed he had in fact collapsed at the scene beside the HGV.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Police Scotland attended after a road traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a lorry at South Street, Perth, which happened at 11.25am.”
And a spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed they treated the man, aged in his 80s, at the scene. He was then taken to hospital by ambulance after it was established he had collapsed at the scene.
Traffic was initially at a standstill following the accident, and was restricted to one lane for around 30 minutes, while ambulance staff treated the male pensioner.
