A major multi-agency operation was under way in Perth on Monday night after a person was spotted in the River Tay.
The alarm was raised at around 9.30pm after a member of the public contacted the Coastguard to report the sighting of a man in the water, near Queen’s Bridge.
HM Coastguard, police, fire and ambulance services were all involved in the operation.
A helicopter was used in the search which stretched from the bridge down to Perth Harbour.
Broughty Ferry’s inshore lifeboat was also involved in the operation.
A Coastguard spokesperson said that teams were searching the shoreline near the bridge.
The spokesperson said: “The Coastguard is currently assisting Police Scotland with a search near Queen’s Bridge in Perth after a person was thought to have been seen in the water.
“Three Coastguard rescue teams from Carnoustie, St Andrews and Leven are conducting a shoreline search.
“The Broughty Ferry RNLI inshore lifeboat, a Coastguard helicopter, police and the fire and rescue service are also involved in the search.”
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said they had sent six appliances and also deployed two boats at the scene.
A fire service spokesperson said: “We got the call from the Coastguard who asked us to attend in relation to a possible sighting in the water.”
A police spokesman said the operation was that officers were assisting in the search.
“It was reported to the Coastguard and we were advised by them that they had received a call from a member of the public who had seen what they thought was a man in the water.
“They were already organising their resources and we sent local officers to assist.
“We also have search and rescue officers on scene in the search exercise.”
