The great-grandson of the legendary Sir Jimmy Shand looks set to follow in his footsteps.
Lewis Noble, of Kinross, will perform in front of record label chiefs on the same stage where artists such as Adele and the Arctic Monkeys once performed.
The 15-year-old has been invited to play on the main stage at the O2 ABC in Glasgow on Saturday in front of a 1,000-strong crowd as part of the Soundwaves Music Competition grand finale showcase event.
The music competition is a festival-style show for 12 different acts from across Scotland. The talent ranges from guitarists and acoustic acts, to pop artists as well as rock bands – all competing for the top prize of recording sessions, radio airplay and the potential to be signed to management and recording companies.
Lewis, who performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival aged only 13 and has also played at the Rewind Festival, said he is very excited about getting the opportunity to play on the same stage as some of his idols in Glasgow.
“I’m looking forward to performing on the main stage at the 02 ABC Glasgow this Saturday, and playing with a professional backing band, which includes my original guitar teacher Steve Murphy, Will Shiels on drums and Ross Millar on bass guitar,” he said.
“I will be playing two of my own compositions plus a well-known blues instrumental piece.”
Lewis has also been invited to appear on stv’s Live at Five show on Friday evening.
The teenager, who can also play the piano, enjoys playing rock, jazz funk and free-style guitar improvisations in addition to blues.
His father, Graeme, remarked on the similarities between Lewis and his famous great-granddad.
“Lewis gets his musical talents from the Shand side of the family,” he said.
“It is striking how similar his general demeanour is to that of this great-grandfather Sir Jimmy Shand,” he said.
“Lewis is very quiet and unassuming. However, he possesses an effortless, natural ability to play his chosen instrument and seems to be able to captivate an audience with ease.”
The Soundwaves competition has been running for four years in Scotland seeing many success stores and boosting music careers for unsigned acts.
Supporting the competition is Ella Shaw who stormed to the final of the 2015 hit TV show Britain’s Got Talent and since has gained millions of YouTube views. She will perform her track Summertime.
The Soundwaves Music Competition previous winners include Sam Lavery who finished sixth in this year’s X Factor.
The winning act on the night will receive a prize package, including a full day’s recording at a professional recording studio as well as radio airtime, press coverage, magazine interviews, photo shoots and loads more.
