Scottish humour will be exported around the world thanks to a globetrotting trip to Europe, the Far East and Australasia by award-winning Perth comedian Bruce Fummey.

The former physics teacher and Scottish Comedian of the Year is performing at Burns suppers at the European Parliament, Bangkok and Jakarta before taking his History of Scotland show to Australia and New Zealand in a three-month tour to the other side of the world.

Setting off on his worldwide adventure, the comic said: “I feel like a missionary spreading the gospel of Scotland through laughter.

“Everywhere you go in the world you find Scots and people who love Scotland. I can’t wait.”

A long-time fan of the Scottish bard, Bruce has always been a regular at local Burns suppers but is now in demand much further afield. He has taken on every role possible at Burns suppers from high impact recitations to toasts to the lassies and proposing the immortal memory.

He launched himself into the International Burns circuit after an acclaimed Edinburgh Fringe Show About Tam O’Shanter which culminated with a stirring rendition of the poem.

Bruce was named Scottish Comedian of the Year in 2014 and his Edinburgh Fringe shows were nominated for Scottish Comedy Awards in 2013 and 2014 and he was nominated for a comedy award at Perth Fringe Western Australia in 2015.

The comedian ran the Just Laugh comedy clubs in Perth, Dundee, Inverness and Stirling for more than a decade and home audiences will get a chance to see him on his return when he will perform A History of Scotland Part 3: The Rise of the Ginger in Perth Concert Hall on Saturday April 22.

He will be introduced by Perthshire farmer and comic Jim Smith who will also perform a short set.
