Nights getting lighter in Perth as show returns to Norie-Miller Walk

Norie-Miller walk will be lit up for 18 days.
Norie-Miller walk will be lit up for 18 days.

Perth’s Winter Festival is to be brought to a dazzling end with the revival of a sound and light show in the city centre.

Norie-Miller walk will be lit up every night from the end of January until Valentine’s day, when it will culminate in a romantic food and drink event.

The Enchanted Forest-esqe show follows on from a similar one to celebrate the Perth 2021 Community Cultural Celebration Day in November.

Perth and Kinross Provost Liz Grant said: “The lighting display at Norie-Miller Walk was a fantastic end to our City of Culture community day in November, and the feedback from those who were able to attend has been really positive.

“I am really pleased that we are able to bring back these lighting features to mark the end of the 2016/17 Winter Festival, our biggest ever, so that even more people can visit, and experience the beauty of Norie-Miller Walk at night.”

Norie-Miller Walk Light Nights will run every night from 3 to 10pm. The council promises that the look and feel of the riverside walk will change throughout the run, making it “perfect for return visits”.

There will also be special theme nights running from 5 to 9pm to mark Burns Night, Chinese New Year, and Valentine’s Day.

More details about the programme will be released in the coming weeks, but the event will open with a special Scottish theme on January 28, featuring a lone piper and Highland dancer, Perth and District Pipe Band, a fire show and Adventure Circus acrobatic displays.

Other events include a celebration of Chinese New Year on January 30, which will feature firecrackers and Chinese arts demonstrations along the riverside, a “Wonderland”-themed event  and a four-day Valentine’s extravaganza

The Norie-Miller Walk Light Nights are the next stage Perth and Kinross Council’s lighting strategy.

The first permanent element saw the council buildings at 2 High Street lit up each night. More city landmarks are due to be incorporated into the lighting strategy, which could include a permanent lighting display for Norie-Miller Walk.
