A serious two vehicle smash is causing massive tailbacks on the A9 near Dunblane.

Police have been alerted to the incident, which has closed off the northbound lane between Greenloaning and the Queen Victoria School.

The alarm was raised just after 12.30pm on Saturday and Traffic Scotland originally said they hoped to have the road cleared within half an hour. However, the route remained closed for investigations until about 5.30pm.

A spokesman said: “Motorists were advised to use alternative route and expect longer than normal journey times.”

Traffic built up at the Keir Roundabout throughout the afternoon, with some reporting tailbacks stretching several miles.

Delays were worsened by a vehicle breakdown in the queues just after 3.30pm.

Police Scotland initially told The Courier the incident related to a broken down vehicle, but later stated it was a collision involving two vehicles.

It is understood one car collided with a stationary motor.
