“Batchan” admonished after Perth restaurant feud boils over

A simmering feud over a chicken dish boiled over into a foul-mouthed on-street bust up between a restaurant-owning couple and their rival.

Pete Chan and his wife Kirsteen were found guilty of subjecting rival restaurateur Nutcharee Bunchareon to a tirade of abuse as the row came to a head.

Mr Chan – who is known as BatChan because he dresses as the superhero to deliver takeaway food – admitted there had been a feud between the restaurants for around a year.

He and his wife claimed it had been sparked when they went for a family meal at the Mae Ping Thai in Perth and complained about a chicken dish being served cold.

Perth Sheriff Court was told that there followed accusations and counter-claims about stalking, online abuse and name calling by the rival businesses.

Chan and his wife were described in court by Sheriff James Macdonald as liars.

However, after hearing they had stayed out of trouble since the incident, he admonished them both.

The court was told that the owners of the Chinese and Thai restaurants had been involved in a feud which had involved Facebook taunts for several months.

Pete and Kirsteen Chan, both 46, of Lauder Crescent, Perth, were found guilty of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm.

The sheriff ruled they had shouted and sworn at Nutcharee Bunchareon and acted aggressively towards her on 14 June last year at Newhouse Road, Perth.

Pete Chan co-runs the China China takeaway food outlet in Craigie, Perth.

He has posted videos of him delivering leftover food to emergency service staff while dressed as the superhero.
