Perth Racecourse set for a sell out Summer Carnival to mark the end of the summer season

Perth Races Summer Carnival was a sell out last year.
Perth Races Summer Carnival was a sell out last year.

Another sold out Summer Carnival is expected this weekend at Perth Racecourse.

The final event of the summer season is predicted to see huge crowds flock to the city on Saturday.

Around 9,000 tickets have been sold for the annual event with the biggest crowd of the race season expected.

The scenic Scone track will host a plethora of live entertainment alongside seven jump races.

It draws an end to the summer race season, with the Autumn Raceday and Glorious Finale up next at the course in September.

Historically, the carnival is the only Saturday race fixture on the Perth calender.

However, Perth Racecourse chief executive, Hazel Peplinski, said the overwhelming success of this year’s racing has seen extra Saturday events added.

She said: “We’ve had an impressive 2018 at Perth so far and the Summer Carnival sees us approach the end of the season in a buoyant mood.

“There’s a real demand for weekend racing and we added a second Saturday fixture to our calendar earlier this year for this very reason, which was extremely well received.

“Our Carnival race day consistently attracts one of the biggest and liveliest crowds of the season and it looks like this year is going to be no exception, with tickets already selling fast.

“I would urge anyone looking to come racing next weekend to buy their tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.

“We’ve got a brilliant line up of quality racing, live music, entertainment and food and drink on offer – all we need now is the sunshine.”

Saturday’s weather forecast is predicting a dry day, following rain during the rest of the week.

Alongside the racing, locals will be treated to music from Rhythm Wave, a Perthshire samba band, and DJ duo, Shaka Loves You.

Race enthusiasts will also see a huge £82,000 in prize money handed out from the Central Course, with a whopping £30,000 up for grabs for the winner of the feature Stone of Destiny Handicap Hurdle.

Doors for the Summer Carnival raceday open at 11.30am, with the first race scheduled for 1.55pm and the last at 5.25pm.

With the course reaching a capacity of 10,000 tickets are still available at www.perth-races.co.uk.

Centre Course Enclosure tickets are priced at £20.00, Grandstand tickets are £25.00, and all under 18’s go free.

Organisers recommend buying tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.
