Safes and cash stolen in two ‘linked’ Perthshire raids by masked crooks

The Land Rover Experience Scotland, near Butterstone, and the Nae Limits base at Ballinluig were both targeted.
The Land Rover Experience Scotland, near Butterstone, and the Nae Limits base at Ballinluig were both targeted.

Police are hunting masked thieves who smashed their way into outdoor activity centres in Perthshire.

The crooks made off with two safes, as well as money and car keys, during the break-ins at the Land Rover Experience Scotland, near Butterstone, and the Nae Limits base at Ballinluig.

The two men, wearing ski masks or balaclavas, were caught on CCTV.

Police Scotland has issued an appeal for witnesses to the incidents, which happened late on Friday and the early hours of Saturday.

A spokesman said: “The locations of these centres are relatively close to each other, and we believe that the incidents are linked.”

It is understood the men struck first at Nae Limits. The centre was ransacked, but police said nothing was taken.

The site, which was left badly damaged, has been targeted by thieves in the past.

A spokeswoman for Nae Limits confirmed the centre was kept operational following the break-in.

The thieves then travelled about 10 miles along the A9 to Land Rover Experience Scotland, east of Dunkeld.

They smashed a window to get inside and made off with two safes, a sum of money, car keys and various other items including a chainsaw.

The raid caused upheaval for centre staff, who were forced to run a limited service.

Customers were warned on social media that there had been a “security breach” at the premises.

Police Scotland has issued descriptions of the two men involved.

The first is described as white, stocky and was wearing a black balaclava or ski mask with rectangular eye holes. He also had a green or grey hooded fleece, dark tracksuit bottoms, dark shoes or trainers.

The second man is also white, but slightly taller and slimmer. He was also wearing a black balaclava or ski mask, as well as a waterproof jacket over a grey hoodie and black tracksuit.

Anyone with information is urged to call police on 101 or freephone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, quoting reference CR/23750/18.
