Kind-hearted Scouts have been spreading Christmas cheer by donating toys to vulnerable children.

Highland Perthshire Explorer Scouts have collected and wrapped hundreds of gifts which were distributed to Tayside charities this week.

Volunteers lost count of how many toys had been donated by people from Breadalbane, Pitlochry, Aberfeldy, Dunkeld and Blair Atholl. The haul has been split between Perthshire Women’s Aid and Children 1st.

Tables were set up in local libraries and Scouts visited a few times a week to collect donations to be wrapped.

Explorer Scout leader Lauren Webster said: “There were so many toys that the older Scouts were collecting and wrapping them every couple of days just to keep on top of them.

“Donations came from communities all over Highland Perthshire. It was nice to see everyone being so generous.

“It was quite overwhelming seeing all the gifts piled up to be delivered and I know both of the charities are so grateful for them.”

Perthshire Women’s Aid will give the presents to families  who have been supported this year, as well as youngsters on its Children Experiencing Domestic Abuse Recovery (CEDAR) programme.

The 10-week plan works with groups of children, young people and mothers to provide a safe space for them to explore their feelings.

Gifts were also donated to the Dundee branch of Children 1st,which helps youngsters facing poverty, neglect, domestic abuse, violence, bereavement or drug and alcohol-related issues.
