Armed robber who rook part in £500,000 Gleneagles Hotel raid fails in bid to cut sentence

A man who carried out a £500,000 armed robbery at Gleneagles Hotel has failed in a bid to have his 18-year jail sentence cut.

Richard Fleming, 42, instructed lawyers to go to the Court of Criminal Appeal in Edinburgh to argue that the term given to him by judge Lady Carmichael was too harsh.

However, appeal judges Lord Glennie and Lord Turnbull ruled that their colleague acted correctly when she sentenced Fleming at the High Court in October 2018.

Lord Glennie said: “We cannot find any fault with the sentence. This appeal is refused.”

Fleming carried out the terrifying heist at the five star resort in June 2017.

He carried hammers, a machete and a pistol and made off with dozens of high value Rolex watches, which were worth more than half a million pounds.
