A killer who knifed his friend to death has been detained at the State Hospital to give psychiatrists more time to examine his mental state.
Jacub Kmieciak was originally accused of murdering fellow Polish national Rafal Rymarkiewicz at a flat in Perth by striking him on the body with a knife on December 23 2017.
Mr Rymarkiewicz, 34, was so severely injured that he died in Ninewells Hospital on Christmas Eve, the day after the attack.
The 20-year-old accused earlier pled guilty to a lesser charge of culpable homicide. The prosecution has not yet revealed the circumstances of the crime.
He was made the subject of an interim compulsion order under which he was detained at Carstairs.
He was due to be sentenced by Lord Burns at the High Court in Livingston on Tuesday when a preliminary medical report was presented to the judge.
The court was told that doctors had recommended an extension of the interim compulsion order to allow certain further steps to be taken regarding the possibility of reintegrating the accused into the prison system.
Lord Burns adjourned the case until May 7 when a more detailed medical report on treatment options will be made available for the court to consider.
The tragedy happened while Mr Rymarkiewicz and friends were enjoying a festive get-together in a house in Wallace Court, in the Tulloch area of the city.
The victim was found critically ill by police at the property and taken by ambulance to Ninewells Hospital, where he died hours later.
Mr Rymarkiewicz was laid to rest during a funeral service in his home city of Inowroclaw, in northern Poland.
Friends paid touching tributes to him on Facebook after his death.
Adrian Dziedzic said: “You always had a big heart and a huge hope that you can help everyone. Unfortunately life showed that not everyone is worth helping.”
