Tributes pour in for Italian businessman killed in Perthshire shooting accident

A man who was shot dead during a hunting trip on a Perthshire estate has been named in Italy as Marco Cavola.

The 42-year-old is believed to have been the victim of a hunting accident gone wrong at the Rossie Estate near Inchture at 11.30am on Monday.

Mr Cavola, from Lariano –  about 50 km from Rome – had  reportedly travelled to Scotland on Sunday with two friends before the deadly incident occurred.

A postmortem is being carried out on the victim this afternoon and police are awaiting formal identification of the body from the family before releasing any further details.

According to reports in Italy, Mr Cavalo leaves behind a wife and three children, two girls aged 14 and 12, and a seven year old boy.

The businessman’s family, alongside the Italian council of the foreign ministry, travelled to Scotland today to provide  transportation of the body to Italy when it is released by police.

The Salvini Premier League of Velletri Facebook page posted: “The Salvini Premier League of Velletri huddles around the pain of Marco Cavola’s family!

“We express our deepest condolences to all his loved ones with emotion.”

On Tuesday, a Tayside Police Division spokesman said: “We can confirm a man has died following an incident near Kinnaird, Carse of Gowrie, on Monday March 25.

“There was no threat to the public and the incident was contained to the immediate area.

“Inquiries are at an early stage and are continuing, and the man’s next of kin have been informed.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We received a call at 11.30am to attend an incident at Rossie estate.

“We despatched a rapid response unit, a trauma team and a manager.”
