A fault with the signalling system between Carrbridge and Inverness is causing severe disruption to journeys between Perth and Inverness.
ScotRail confirmed it had suspended their service between Perth and Inverness, adding that lightning strikes and flooding between the stations were also likely to cause problems.
Services have been cancelled, delayed or revised, and passengers were urged to check before the travel.
Rail replacement buses were being laid on between Perth and Inverness throughout the evening, and it is hoped the disruption will not run into Friday.
