Two Perthshire MPs will go head to head in a debate over Brexit next month as the clock counts down towards October 31.

Pete Wishart, SNP MP for Perth and North Perthshire will battle it out with Luke Graham, Conservative MP for Ochil and South Perthshire, in front of a live audience at the Grampian Hotel, Perth, on September 26,

This is the third year the two MPs have debated Brexit with No Deal expected to be at the forefront of any conversation as the Halloween deadline approaches.

Susannah Rae, of Perth 4 Europe, which is organising the event, said: “Previous MP events have discussed the type of deal anticipated and people’s concerns about leaving the EU.

“The discussion this time will depend on what happens when the UK parliament reconvenes in September, but at the moment we expect that there will be a lot of questions on the impact of no deal.”

Both MPs will speak for about 10 minutes before an hour of questions from the audience followed by a short summing up from each.

The debate, starting at 7pm, will be chaired by Rachel Weiss from Rowan Consultancy.

Mr Wishart said: “The political landscape has changed considerably between each of these debates and I am not sure if either of us still expected to be debating this three years down the line.

“I have a consistent voting record of trying to shield Perthshire from some of the worst excesses of this Tory obsession with Brexit and I look forward to a robust discussion with Luke about the way out of this mess.”

Mr Graham said: “I believe it is vital we keep discussing key issues.

“My main concern just now is that real movement won’t come until mid-late October.”
