A woman, believed in the her 80s, is said to have fallen down an embankment at the popular walking spot.

A man, believed to be her husband, is said to have attempted to rescue her before becoming stuck himself.

The woman was taken from The Birks area on a stretcher.

Both were taken to hospital following the rescue. They are said to have suffered minor injuries.

A police spokesman said: "A lady fell down an embankment and her husband tried to grab her and he's fallen in. They have gone to hospital.

"The call came to us at 3.10pm."

A fire service spokeswoman said two crews – one from Pitlochry and another from Dunkeld – were called to the scene. A line rescue unit and aerial team were also requested.
