Plans have been approved by Perth and Kinross Council to revamp a Highland Perthshire hotel.
The Bridge of Tilt Hotel has been closed for several years, and owner Stuart Richardson told planning officers any attempt to resurrect the business in the building’s current condition, labelled as “uninspiring”, would be “futile.”
Developers have described the dormant site as looking like a “lorry park” and have suggested drivers passing through Blair Atholl use it as such.
Plans were lodged in June 2018 to renovate the building, including some demolition work.
The works, set to commence after being signed off on Monday, will also include external alterations and the construction of five new holiday cottages in the grounds.
As well as the work at the main building, external modifications to the joined-on Roundhouse Inn have also been approved.
These include an ambitious attic space conversion to provide staff with on-site accommodation.
The project has received no objections and has been supported by Struan and Blair Atholl Community Council, although the group has aired some concerns over parking and tree-planting.
Progress on the application had been halted in order to complete a bat survey, with many spotted using the vacant structure as a safe roosting spot.
Accordingly, the developers have been told to schedule their works around the main bat and bird breeding season, which stretches until the end of October, as a planning condition.
