It’s time to fire up the Deloreon, crack out the leg-warmers and get ready to party like its 1989.
Organisers of Scotland’s most colourful music festival have taken the wraps off another star-studded line-up.
Chart-toppers Jimmy Somerville and Wet Wet Wet will headline Rewind Scotland at Scone Palace in July, marking the 1980s-fused event’s 10th anniversary in Perthshire.
The line-up also features big hitters such as Billy Ocean – who went down a storm at a recent Christmas lights show in Perth – ground-breaking ’80s icons Bananarama and hip-hop pioneer Grandmaster Flash.
Especially created for Rewind, former Communards frontman Jimmy Somerville will close Saturday night with his Big Band-Tastic Boogie, promising a hit-packed set with brass, strings and special effects including what promises to be the world’s biggest party popper.
Jimmy will be joined on stage by special guest Sarah Jane Morris to recreate their 1986 number one song Don’t Leave Me This Way.
Glasgow’s Wet Wet Wet will be making their debut at the festival. The band have sold more than 15 million singles and albums to date and featured in the UK charts for a colossal 500 weeks.
Frontman Kevin Simm said: “We’re very excited to play Rewind for the first time, it looks a lot of fun.”
Drummer Tommy Cunningham added: “We can’t wait to play all our hits. It’ll be a brilliant night.”
The two-day celebration will also feature sets from Thompson Twins’ Tom Bailey, Trevor Horn Band, Heather Small, Nick Heyward and Shalamar.
Also announced are Roland Gift from the Fine Young Cannibals, Limahl, Hue and Cry, From The Jam, the Blow Monkeys, Altered Images, Pete Wylie of the Mighty Wah!, The Christians, Owen Paul, T’Pau and John Parr, best known for his chart-topping single St Elmo’s Fire.
The nostalgia-filled fest, which opens for campers on the Friday night, will get under way with a performance by the Queen Symphonic and an orchestral tribute to the iconic rock band.
New for 2020 will be Club Tropicana – where the drinks sadly aren’t free – a big top nightclub featuring a range of star DJs.
A street food area will also be set up for the first time this year.
