A popular Perth venue has been evacuated on Saturday night after part of the roof of the building collapsed.

Around eighty people were evacuated from The Venue on St John’s Street after it suffered severe structural damage during Storm Ciara.

The Venue has now claimed the  collapse occurred after the chimney of a neighbouring building fell through their roof.

A spokesperson for The Venue said: “Unluckily tonight our neighbouring building’s chimney breast fell through our roof causing the roof to cave in and the top front of our building to be dislodged.

Thankfully nobody has been seriously harmed but the business will be closed until we find out the extent of the damage caused to our building.

A big thanks to the Emergency services, Perth Police, fire & ambulance for all their help.

We will not know anything more until the professionals have finished their surveying.

Massive thanks to all our customers and friends concerns and we hope to see you all very soon.”

Emergency services, including the police and fire brigade, are currently on the scene though no-one is believed to have been seriously injured.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “At the moment we’re still dealing with it.

“There’s no-one seriously injured.

“There were approximately 80 people in The Venue that have been evacuated safely.”

At 8pm The Venue posted on social media: “Due to unforeseen circumstances The Venue has been closed until further notice we apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.

“This a temporary closure due to structural damage.”
