T in the Park fans are dusting off their tartan trews for a surprise appearance by Scotland’s biggest ever boy band.
The recently revived Bay City Rollers have confirmed they will be joining the bill at this summer’s festival, rubbing shoulders with the likes of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Calvin Harris.
The 1970’s pop sensations – featuring classic line-up members Alan Longmuir, Stuart “Woody” Wood and Les McKeown – have been writing and recording material for a new album in Glasgow. The first single Boomerang will be released soon.
Singer Les said he was slightly surprised when festival boss Geoff Ellis agreed to add them to the bill.
“It’s going to be great,” he said. “It’s a real privilege and I’m really looking forward to being up there.
“I was properly over the moon when we first got asked.”
He added: “It was hard to believe at first. It is such a contemporary festival when you look at all the acts who normally play.
“It’s very much the Radio 1 artists, so we never expected to get the nod, but we jumped at the chance when it was offered. It’s going to be nothing but hit after hit.”
T in the Park recently secured a crucial council licence to return to Strathallan Castle in July.
