A £620,000 bridge maintenance project will begin on the A9 in Perthshire this weekend.

The works will take place on Cairnie Bridge near Aberuthven from Saturday, and are expected to continue until December 20.

The project will involve replacing expansion joints on the bridge, as well as upgrading and replacing the existing parapet.

Works are needed on the bridge – which carries the A9 over the River Earn – to ensure it continues to operate safely.

BEAR Scotland’s North East Representative, Ian Stewart said: “This £620,000 bridge improvement project will allow our teams to carry out the replacement of expansion joints on the A9 Cairnie Bridge ensuring the bridge continues to operate safely.

“We thank road users for their patience during these essential works and encourage them to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website before they travel and allowing some extra time to reach their destination.”

Throughout the project, the road will remain open to motorists.

However, a contraflow traffic management system will be in place during both day- and night-times.

Consultations on the works were carried out with Transport Scotland, Perth and Kinross Council, relevant Community Councils and transport operators.

Motorists can access real time traffic information on the Traffic Scotland website.
