The executive producer of T in the Park has said he was left “broken” by the deaths of two teenagers in the festival campsite.

The man and woman, both 17, were found in separate areas of the camp on Friday morning.

Police are investigating the tragedy which is believed to be drug related.

Festival veteran Melvin Benn, who was drafted in to get T in the Park back on track after a spate of problems in 2015, said: “It’s just devastating.

“I’ve spent my life around festivals and I have kids who go to festivals. These two young people came to this festival for a great weekend and they have died.

“I am absolutely broken about this to be honest.”

Mr Benn said: “The circumstances and the cause of death we don’t know yet, but we are working closely with the police and medical teams to establish what happened.

“The medics responded very quickly. The medical teams we have on site are at least as quantified and as good as any of the major cities in the UK, not just here in Scotland.”

He added: “The attention to support these young people received was incredible. I am absolutely certain that there is nothing more that we could have done to save them or indeed prevent this.”
