A pedestrian cheated death after an out-of-control car missed her by inches.

Dramatic footage posted online shows a silver BMW reverse in a semicircle at high speed before slamming into a lamp post.

A woman walking through the car park is forced to jump back as the vehicle turns 270 degrees and the bonnet swings towards her.

The incident happened outside Auchterarder’s Niblick pub, on Crown Inn Wynd, at around midday on Monday.

Pub owner Sean Adair said although the footage appears to show the driver speeding away from the scene the car stopped just a few metres away.

He said: “I was sitting in the pub when I heard a big bang from outside, so I went to the window and saw the car speeding off. My first thought was that he had hit someone because it looked like he was driving away but he stopped after that.

“I went out and spoke to someone who was outside having a cigarette and he said he got the fright of his life.

“I then went and looked at the CCTV and saw what happened. It’s definitely quite dramatic footage because that woman just about got hit.

“Also quite a lot of our customers stand at the lamppost or sit on the wee electrical box next to it so it’s lucky no one was there at the time or they could have been killed.”

Sean added that no one seemed sure of the cause of the incident.

He said: “What people are saying is that the driver didn’t have a clue what had happened and that he just lost control but someone else said it got stuck in reverse, that it was an automatic. I’m not sure what the actual details are as there was a few people saying different things.

“I did hear someone asking if they wanted them to phone the police and someone said ‘no’ – which I thought was a bit suspicious.”

The video has been shared 170 times on Facebook and viewed almost 18,000 times.

Sean said: “I wasn’t expecting that – it’s a bit crazy.”

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland confirmed they had not been made aware of the incident.
