Pensioner dies after vehicle crashes into telephone pole in Perthshire

A pensioner has died after the vehicle he was driving crashed into a telephone pole in Perthshire.

The 78-year-old was rushed to Ninewells Hospital following the incident on Main Street, Bridge of Earn, shortly before 6am on Saturday.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland confirmed the man had sadly succumbed to his injuries whilst a female passenger was not injured.

Access to the area was restricted for several hours as an investigation was launched.

Police said the collision is not being treated as suspicious as the road reopened on Saturday afternoon.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “We received a report of a crash involving one vehicle on Main Street, Bridge of Earn, Perth, around 5.40am on Saturday, 2 July, 2022.

Driver taken to hospital

“Emergency services attended and the 78-year-old male driver was taken to Ninewells Hospital where he later died.

“The female passenger was not injured.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident and has not already spoken to officers is asked to contact 101 quoting incident 0794 of 2 July, 2022.”
