Flames were seen shooting from a Perth flat after a tumble dryer caught fire.

Emergency services were called to Rannoch Road just after 10pm on Wednesday after the blaze in a top-floor flat.

Video footage captured from the scene (below) showed crews entering the block as the fire took hold.

Two appliances from Perth fire station attended the scene before an additional crew was drafted in from Auchterarder.

The road was also closed by police between Campsie Road and Newhouse Road while firefighters spent nearly three hours at the scene.

It is understood no one was injured.

Resident Sam Purdie, 86, said: “Our block was taped off as fire crews dealt with the incident next door.

“It’s the most serious fire I’ve seen in my 22 years of living here.

“Folk that were parked outside on the street were moving their cars on to the pavement to give the fire service better access.

“Thankfully everyone appears to be OK.”

Damage to the flat on Rannoch Road.

Another resident, John Wilson, 71, says crews were inspecting the attic space in the aftermath of the blaze.

He said: “I came out after the fire had been put out but there were hoses everywhere in the street and flashing lights.

“The fire service were removing one of the window frames and they were inspecting the attic space.

“Coming out this morning and seeing the extent of the damage just shows how bad the fire must have been last night.”

‘I could smell smoke and heard a bang’

Another resident, who asked not to be identified, said: “I could smell smoke and then I heard a bang.

“As far as I’m aware all the residents managed to get themselves out safely.

“Looking at the videos online of the fire I’m amazed how bad it was.”

Third appliance requested to attend

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We received the first call at 10.11pm of a tumble dryer on fire.

“Two appliances from Perth fire station were dispatched to the scene before a third appliance was requested to attend.

“Crews used four breath apparatus, one main hose reel jet and a hose reel jet.

“We received the stop message at 12.56am.”
