A serious accident has forced the closure of the northbound A9 near to Dunblane.

Emergency services remain at the scene, at Greenloaning, where a lorry and van collided.

A man in his 30s was left trapped in his vehicle by the accident and had to be cut free by fire crews.

Police Scotland said the casualty was “conscious and breathing” throughout.

He has since been airlifted to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment. The extent of his injuries is unknown but they are not believed to be life-threatening.

The carriageway is expected to remain closed for some time.

One eyewitness said: “The vehicles look seriously badly damaged. I hope everyone is OK.”

Diversions have been put in place and motorists are being urged to take alternative routes.

Traffic Scotland has detailed the following diversions:

Northbound traffic : Exit M80 on to M9 eastbound and continue on M9 to junction with M876, take slip road to M876 towards New Clackmannanshire Bridge, cross bridge and on the north side take first exit to A977, continue northwards on A977 until junction with M90 at Kinross, take northbound on slip road at Kinross and enter M90, continue north on M90 to Craigend Interchange at Perth and the permanently positioned signs.

The southbound carriageway was closed to allow the air ambulance to land. It has since been reopened.
