A Perthshire-based charitable organisation that is involved in frontline emergency response work has been named as this year’s corporate charity for Edinburgh Airport.

The tie-up between Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) and the airport arose after the majority of its staff in Edinburgh voted for the organisation in a secret ballot.

Forty applications to become 2018’s charity of the year were received by Edinburgh Airport. However, Anna Light, head of engagement at Edinburgh Airport, explained why SCAA was chosen.

“The story behind Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance was something our staff really took to and I’m excited to see how we can work together in 2018 to support and further promote a crucial life-saving service,” she said.

“Working with our corporate charities has provided us with some great experiences and memories. Knowing we are helping raise awareness and funds for good causes is fantastic.”

David Craig, chief executive of SCAA, said everyone at the vital life-saving charity was thrilled to be selected as Edinburgh Airport’s charity partner for 2018.

“To be chosen by the staff to receive their support and backing is a great honour and a wonderful boost for us as we enter our fifth anniversary year,” he commented.

“It’s tremendous to be associated with the country’s busiest airport and join a prestigious line-up of charities to enjoy this amazing fundraising support.”

He continued: “Staff at Edinburgh will help save lives through this partnership with SCAA and we look forward to working together throughout the coming year.”

Based at Perth Airport, SCAA can be airborne within five minutes of receiving an emergency call and can reach 90% of Scotland’s population within 25 minutes.

Working in partnership with the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS), SCAA is regarded as an integral part of Scotland’s frontline emergency response network, responding to trauma incidents and medical emergencies across the country, covering an area of more than 30,000 square miles.
