Perthshire distillery launches new ‘spaniel gin’ for dog charity

Gin lovers will be helping a Perthshire animal rescue charity the next time they have a hair of the dog thanks to a new partnership.

Persie Distillery in Glenshee has teamed up with Perthshire Abandoned Dogs Society (PADS) to create a Spaniel-themed spirit

Using mace and cinnamon, the spicy gin has warm undertones, designed to reflect the spirited but gentle character associated with spaniels.

Dog fans will be doing a good deed with every tipple as £1 from each bottle sold will be sent to PADS to help provide care and shelter to abandoned dogs.

Simon Fairclough, distiller and managing director at Persie Distillery, said: “When we launched the distillery we did taste tests all over the country and this spicy flavor was really popular.

“We are dog lovers, both in the distillery and as a family, so we wanted to help a local dog charity and it all fits in really well.

“When it came to picking a breed to name the gin after, any spaniel owner knows wild and spicy is a perfect description for them.”

The distillery also launched a Labrador gin this summer, which is described as traditional, soft and warming.

Proceeds from both gins are donated to PADS, as well as an annual lump sum from the distillery.

Simon said: “It’s a perfect fit for us to team up with a small charity which makes a big difference to dogs’ lives.

“PADS’ sterling work in finding secure and loving homes for abandoned dogs is life-changing for both the dogs and owners and we are proud to be a partner.”

Simon, who has a cocker spaniel named Nelly, said he has one more theme up his sleeve but remained tight-lipped about which breed had inspired it.

PADS runs kennels at Forteviot, near Perth, which can house up to 30 dogs at a time. It also runs small hospital unit for dogs while they recover from treatment, as well as a mother and baby unit.

Alison Kennedy, director at PADS, said: “All of us at PADS are delighted to have Persie Gin as our sponsor. We feel that this is an ideal partnership between a thriving Perthshire business and one of the county’s best-known and best-loved charities.”
