Derek Mackay: Fresh allegations made against former finance secretary

Allegations continue to mount against disgraced former finance minister Derek Mackay.

The Renfrewshire North and West MSP dramatically resigned as finance secretary on  Thursday, after it emerged he sent 270 messages to a 16-year-old school boy on social media over the space of six months.

The teenager told the Scottish Sun on Sunday that the Scottish Government must be fully transparent about concerns previously raised about his conduct.

The newspaper also reported that Mr Mackay, 42, allegedly “groped” a 21-year-old man at Glasgow’s Proud Scotland awards in June last year.

A 52-year-old woman who attended the event, which rewards friends of the LGBT community, claims he “made a beeline” for the man.

It was also reported that Mr Mackay could be axed as honorary vice-president of the Paisley and District Boys Brigade battalion after the organisation confirmed the matter was “under review”.

It follows on from allegations which came to light this week that Mr Mackay had “bombarded” a married 25-year-old SNP activist for almost four years, including one asking if he had any “naughty pics”.

Other claims include that the ex-SNP  chief was banned from drinking at party conferences due to concerns over his behaviour.

Mr Mackay, who has not been seen since Wednesday, quit as finance secretary just hours before he was due to deliver the Scottish Government’s budget.

On Thursday, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon suspended him from the party and parliamentary group.

But Mr Mackay faces growing pressure to stand down as a member of parliament, with SNP depute leader Keith Brown admitting today that it would be “very difficult” for him to remain as an MSP.
