Three more people have died after contracting the coronavirus in Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon has confirmed.
The total number of lives lost to covid-19 in Scotland has now doubled to six.
Across Scotland a total of 266 people have contracted the virus, an increase from 227 on Wednesday.
There are now 27 confirmed cases of covid-19 in Tayside and nine in Fife.
This is a rise of three for Tayside and one for the kingdom.
Speaking at First Minister’s Questions in the Scottish Parliament, the First Minister said: “As of 9am this morning (there were) a total of 266 cases, an increase of 39 from yesterday.”
She added this figure was an “underestimate of the true prevalence of infections” in Scotland.
Mrs Sturgeon added: “There are now six deaths…an increase of three.”
She sent her thoughts to the loved ones of those who have died.
Later on Thursday, all of Scotland’s 2020 school exams were called off.
