The Defence Secretary must deliver on promises to upgrade Leuchars Barracks after it was revealed hundreds of troops are leaving, said a Fife MP.
Stephen Gethins, who represents North East Fife, wrote to Michael Fallon following the announcement 2 Close Support Battalion REME will depart to join the Strike Brigade in Yorkshire.
They are expected to operate remotely at Leuchars before joining the team south of the border in 2030.
Mr Gethins said the news about 2 CS Bn was “disappointing”, but added: “I hope that the investment promised for Leuchars will go ahead as planned and we can look forward to offering more service personnel and their families a warm welcome to North East Fife.”
Fife councillor Tim Brett said Leuchars has the opportunity to be Scotland’s main Army base, with the barracks touted as a possible home for Black Watch, which is due to leave Fort George in 2032.
He warned that any lengthy delays in replacing departing troops could herald a repeat of the “devastating” impact felt locally after the RAF left.
