David Cameron taunted the SNP during Prime Minister’s Questions over losing its Holyrood majority.
Angus Robertson, the Nationalists’ leader in Westminster, asked the PM whether he would congratulate Nicola Sturgeon for securing a third term for the party on a scale that cannot be matched in Western Europe.
Mr Cameron replied saying he was “delighted” to congratulate Ms Sturgeon on her victory in the same way he was sure Mr Robertson would like to do so for Ruth Davidson, the leader of the second-place Scottish Conservatives.
He added: “We have something in common because of course the SNP have gone from majority to minority while the (UK) Conservatives have gone from coalition to majority.
“Next week he can ask me how we are getting on with ordering some more pandas for Edinburgh Zoo.”
Mr Robertson, the Moray MP, also asked Mr Cameron why he was prepared to lecture other countries when seven police forces are investigating his own party on suspicion of electoral fraud.
He referred to Mr Cameron’s comments to the Queen in which the PM referred to Nigeria and Afghanistan as “fantastically corrupt” countries.
