There are now 116 confirmed coronavirus cases across Tayside and Fife

Almost 900 people across Scotland have now tested positive for coronavirus – with 116 cases across Tayside and Fife.

The number of people who have contracted covid-19 in Tayside has surged to 76 and 40 in the Kingdom. Locally, this is a rise of 30 from Wednesday when there were 57 and 29 confirmed cases in Tayside and Fife respectively.

Across Scotland 894 people have tested positive.

It comes after Nicola Sturgeon revealed that 25 people in Scotland have now died after testing positive for covid-19.

Speaking at a press conference in Edinburgh she said: “There are now 894 confirmed cases which is an increase of 175 from yesterday. These numbers will be an underestimate.”

She also extended her “condolences to of those who have lost loved ones”.

The death toll is an increase of three on Wednesday, when 22 people were confirmed to have passed away after contracting covid-19 in Scotland.

Wednesday’s figures revealed a total of 719 people across the country had tested positive.
