This is the moment a horse-rider was thrown from her mare on a rural Scottish road after being overtaken by a lorry.
Footage of the moment Kathryn Hingston’s horse Ruby took off, sending her crashing to the tarmac of the A920 Oldmeldrum to Colpy road, went viral after being shared to Facebook group Pass Wide and Slow.
The clip, which was removed from the page, shows a white lorry overtaking her as she rides the horse along the route, frightening the mare.
Panicking, it takes off and she falls to the road surface.
Mrs Hingston posted she’d “had a bit of an accident,” adding: “It was really windy so my mare, Ruby, was on her toes but then a lorry came past so fast it caused her to bolt.
“As I was trying to get her back under control another car tried to overtake us and I ended up on the road.”
She had also posted photographs of her injuries, a bloody elbow and a swollen foot.
Two cars which were behind her, one of which was preparing to overtake, quickly spot the incident.
A cyclist who was filming the horse ride in front of her captured the events.
The horse eventually runs into a neighbouring field.
Director of safety for the British Horse Society Alan Hiscox said: “The British Horse Society are saddened to see this footage and we hope the rider and horse have a speedy recovery. Unfortunately, incidents between riders and vehicles are quite common.
“A lot of people don’t know how to approach horses on the road, and that’s why we launched the Dead Slow campaign, to encourage drivers to pass horses in an appropriate manner and this is certainly of particular relevance to drivers on rural roads.
“We want drivers to slow down to 15mph when they see a horse, and pass wide and slow.”
