Rooms at hotels and B and Bs in Stirling have apparently sold out at a rapid rate after one of Scotland’s biggest bands announced their last ever show in the city.

Runrig confirmed yesterday that they will play their final gig at City Park on Saturday, August 18 2018; bringing to an end 45 years in the world of music.

The Celtic rockers, whose music centres around Scottish culture and landscape, are expecting some 25,000 fans to make their way to the venue in the shadow of Stirling Castle.

Tickets for The Last Dance go on sale on Friday at 10am, however rooms in hotels and B and Bs in and around Stirling are already said to be “non-existent” following a huge response to the band’s announcement.

Camping will be available at the event.

Runrig themselves were so concerned that they called on local hoteliers to tweet their fans with the hashtag #TheLastDance if they still have space for guests.

End of an era as Runrig announce details of last ever gig

The band initially posted: “We’re hearing that room availability in Stirling for the 18th is virtually non-existent now. That didn’t you guys very long!”

Runrig then Tweeted: “Accommodation in Stirling is becoming an issue. Can hotels and B&Bs with rooms left please tweet using #TheLastDance to help our fans!”

In a statement issued this morning the band said the amount of love shown from fans following yesterday’s announcement had been “overwhelming”.

They added: “The last 24 hours or so have been overwhelming. We’ve had literally thousands of people get in touch, the majority of which were sending love our way.

“It’s been humbling seeing the response to yesterday’s announcement and reading all of the memories that you associate with either the band or our music.

“Unfortunately because of the sheer volume of comments/questions we just can’t respond to everyone as much as we’d like to but we are making an effort to read everyone’s comments and messages.
