Drivers have once again been told to exercise caution on the roads with freezing winter weather expected to continue across Tayside.
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for ice across the region, and neighbouring Grampian, as it predicts the mercury will plummet to as low as -2C from Monday into Tuesday.
Icy patches are expected to develop on untreated roads, cycle paths and pavements from 5pm on Monday until 9am on Tuesday.
The forecaster has also warned that “wash off” caused by wintry showers on routes through the most inland parts of Tayside could also lead to slippery surfaces on “treated roads”. Traffic Scotland has urged motorists to be wary.
And Met Office spokesman Grahame Madge said the freezing conditions are being caused by an area of high pressure in the west of Scotland, which is predicted to plunge temperatures to -6C from Wednesday into Thursday.
He added conditions in Tayside could drop to -2C overnight.
Mr Madge said: “Overnight temperatures (Monday into Tuesday) will be around about 0C. Temperatures may well get lower than that. The snow will have an impact on higher ground.
“And temperatures could come down during the week to a bit lower than that to -5C or -6C across Scotland. From Wednesday into Thursday night temperatures will be coming down because we have got this cold northerly coming in bringing colder air to parts of the UK.
“There is an area of high pressure sat out to the west. It is going to feel much colder.”
