Courier Business Awards 2018 — Castle Water is named our business of the year at glittering ceremony in Dundee

A Perthshire-based water company has been named as Courier Country’s top company.

Castle Water of Blairgowrie took home the coveted Business of the Year prize following the action-packed Courier Business Awards 2018 gala ceremony on Saturday night.

Castle Water chief executive John Reynolds accepts the Business of the Year prize presented by Rachel Riley and David Smith of Henderson Loggie.

The firm was recognised for its extraordinary journey which has taken it from startup to fully-fledged multi-million-pound industry player within four years.

The company, which provides water to 350,000 UK business customers, was earlier recognised in the Growth category and its founder and chief executive John Reynolds was individually honoured as Entrepreneur of the Year.

Mr Reynolds said: “Winning this award, and the others we have been given tonight, has just been completely unexpected.

“This is a huge honour and the whole evening has been a great experience.

“Everyone at Castle Water is delighted to have been involved.

“There is a real buzz about our offices at the moment and this award will take pride of place, it will help us take things further.

“We have big plans for the next twelve months.

“We will look to continue to expand our business across the country, with some significant growth plans in place.

“I think Tayside in the past has been lacking in a bit of self-confidence, but things are certainly looking forward.

“Events like the Courier Business Awards are important, they allow businesses of all sizes from across Courier Country to be recognised for the work they do and earn the recognition they deserve.”

While Castle Water was the big winner, there were many other success stories to celebrate at the awards, which were again held in association with Henderson Loggie.

Ceremony host Rachel Riley and master of ceremonies Fred MacAulay oversaw proceedings, which took place within a luxury marquee at the Apex City Quay Hotel in Dundee, and a total of 23 awards were handed out during the evening.

The ceremony also saw Mike Galloway, the former executive director of city development at Dundee City Council, recognised.

Mike Galloway collected the Outstanding Contribution award.

The official, who retired from his role in the week that V&A Dundee opened its doors, was honoured with the Outstanding Contribution prize for his pivotal role in the £1 billion redevelopment of Dundee waterfront.
