Seven people from Tayside and Fife are among 700 new names in the 2019 edition of Who’s Who, which will be published on Monday.
Inclusion in Who’s Who, a reference book containing 33,000 autobiographical entries of some of the most famous, most powerful and most influential people in the world, is by invitation only. It has been published annually since 1849 and entry is considered a significant accolade.
The new entries will join famous names such as Pope Francis, US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Everyone in the volume is invited to compile his or her own entry, so entries can be as long or as short as personalities wish.
The entries of the Courier country seven are mostly brief and modest. The Bishop of St Andrews, Dunkeld and Dunblane sums up his life and achievements in just 15 lines which, coincidentally, is the same number of lines required by Vladimir Putin to tell his life story. It is one less line than the 16-line entry of Pope Francis and eight fewer than that for US President Trump.
The names of all new entries will remain in Who’s Who until their owners die, when they will be automatically transferred to Who’s Who’s sister publication Who Was Who.
The new entries from Dundee swell the impressive city colony in Who’s Who, which already contains 66 people based in the City of Discovery and 37 people who were born there. The 2019 edition of Who’s Who is published by A & C Black on Monday and costs £325.
