Thousands of protesters chanting “not my president” blocked New York’s Fifth Avenue as they descended on Trump Tower on Wednesday evening.
Cries of “New York hates Trump”, “We reject the president elect” and “F*** the wall” were also heard as demonstrators gathered outside the famous landmark in Manhattan, with many waving placards with anti-Trump slogans.

It followed a day of protests across America and in Britain against Donald Trump’s election win, as he prepares to be appointed the 45th president of the United States.
Early on Wednesday pop star Lady Gaga staged her own protest at Trump Tower after it became clear the Republican candidate would win the presidency.
Propped up on the side of a New York City sanitation truck, the 30-year-old singer and Hillary Clinton supporter held up a sign that read “Love trumps hate.”
She wrote on social media: “I want to live in a #CountryOfKindness #LoveTrumpsHate. He divided us so carelessly. Let’s take care now of each other.”
As protesters marched towards Trump Tower late on Wednesday, the east side of the Fifth Avenue was closed to the public and lorries filled with dirt were lined up in front of the building’s lobby to form a protective barrier.

There were reports of multiple arrests being made as officers from the NYPD moved in to contain the demonstrators.
Outside Trump Tower, protester Anna Ceraulo-Jalazo, 27, from New York, said: “I’m here because I refuse to accept divisive politics in this country.
“I refuse to accept racism, xenophobia, sexism and transphobia as policy.
“I refuse to accept a president who the popular vote didn’t elect.”
RJ Rushmore, 25, from New York, said: “This isn’t the end. This is the first thing we need to do.
“I’m scared. I’m a straight white guy from Brooklyn – I’m not as screwed as everybody else.
“I’m scared for that guy to have his finger on the nuclear codes.”
Victor Cabero said: “He shouldn’t be in office. He’s a hothead. He’s probably going to start another war.”
In London anti-racist groups gathered outside the US Embassy and there were reports of confrontations with members of a right-wing group, although Scotland Yard said no arrests were made.
Mr Trump had spent the day laying low in his Manhattan skyscraper following his shock election victory.
In a speech to supporters after the result was declared, the tycoon said it was time to “bind the wounds of division”.
