With just two sleeps until the EU referendum, fear not – I have a handy cut-out-and keep guide for anyone who has made up their mind how they are going to vote and is desperate to get away from all the hoo-ha in the run-up to the vote.
Catch up on all the Gogglebox episodes you may have missed. There’s nothing worse than suddenly realising you have no idea when you last caught up with the Rev Kate or Giles and Mary. I mean, what if there was some kind of spot quiz? It’s a matter of pride. Also, it’s a great time-saving device as you don’t have to spend hours watching things like Versailles, you can just watch the clips and reactions then decide you don’t really need to bother.
Start learning the piano. Thrilling news reaches Penman Towers that my efforts to relearn the piano at a ripe age have been quite cutting edge. Apparently it’s now a thing, with the likes of Armando Iannucci no less taking up the Aldeburgh Music Festival’s Grade 1 Challenge. I draw the line at taking any exams though – the whole point for me is to play as a stress-busting measure. Even though I am still rubbish, I can vouch for the therapeutic effects of mastering an instrument later in life.
Try to have two whole days of not shouting at politicians banging on about in/out via the radio/TV/interweb. Obviously the only way to achieve this is to stay away from any broadcast platforms entirely. Avoid friends who might be wanting a lovely debate on the matter. Your blood pressure will thank you.
Celebrate the predicted demise of emails by going through the hundreds of emails you haven’t even opened and dumping them (no point looking at them if they’re going to become obsolete). This is probably best done with private emails rather than work ones. Unless you have a very understanding boss.
Celebrate the number of times broadcasters have felt the need to play The Clash’s Should I Stay or Should I go as background to referendum pieces by listening to it on a loop and remembering the good old days (my generation) or educating yourself (younger generation).
