The pressure will be right on Rangers when Dundee welcome them to Dens Park this Saturday lunchtime.
The two clubs achieved contrasting results on the opening day of the Premiership season and that has added extra spice to a fixture that was always going to be extremely interesting.
Of course, I am delighted to see the Dark Blues, not the Light Blues, sitting at the top of the table, although we are only one game in so let’s not get carried away!
Dundee’s 3-1 victory up at Ross County rightly grabbed a lot of attention because they have struggled up there in the past and I would say a journey up to Dingwall is still one of the toughest away trips in the league.
The Staggies also finished last season strongly and have an impressive management team in Jim McIntyre and Billy Dodds.
So to go up there and win as comfortably as they did was, while maybe not on a par with the previous season’s 4-0 success at Kilmarnock on day one, still a huge confidence-booster.
Rory Loy’s name was the one on most supporters’ lips after the game, due to his two goals and excellent all-round display.
Maybe that shows there is more strength in depth at Dens than some thought.
Now it is up to Loy to step up again when Rangers visit and I’m backing him to do that.
If he can play as well as he did against County then maybe that really will begin to ease the pain of losing Kane Hemmings.
As for the Ibrox side, they could only draw 1-1 at home to Hamilton Accies.
A few people seemed surprised by that scoreline but why should Rangers have a divine right to win at home or away?
I just think the pressure is on them, full stop, if they are hoping to hang on to the coat-tails of Celtic this season.
Their fans will be looking for their team to go for it against Dundee after that draw against Accies but that could suit the home team.
This game will be an absolute cracker and I, for one, can’t wait for kick-off.
~ Now the world has a new most-expensive footballer after Paul Pogba was signed by Manchester United for £89 million.
That’s just crazy money, isn’t it?
When you look at it and even factor in the massive TV cash in the English Premier League now, it still doesn’t make much sense.
I watched Pogba during the Euros and I suppose if France had won the tournament he would have been hailed as one of Europe’s best.
However, the French fell short in the final against Portugal and Pogba wasn’t all that impressive.
Anyway, I’m wishing my old team Leicester City all the best again when the EPL kicks off this weekend.
I loved my time down there and Leicestershire is a lovely place to live.
The city is a one-team town when it comes to football – let’s not mention the rugby – so they will get great support from the people again.
I am confident they will have another brilliant season, although maybe it’s too much to ask for them to lift the title for a second time!
