Each week, we will take you on a trip back in time with a selection of photographs picked from DC Thomson’s vast archives. This week, the focus is on the Magdalen Green area of Dundee.
Our first picture shows boxing practice taking place at the Magdalen Green bandstand. Members of the Prince of Wales Amateur Boxing Club are being put through their paces in May 1979. We’re not sure if a leather jacket and flares is standard issue boxing wear but these guys certainly weren’t to be messed with!
Up next is this winter scene from Magdalen Green in January 1967. The picture was taken from Magdalen Yard Road. Check out the signs as well!
Our third image shows a general view of the rail line that runs past the front of Magdalen Green. This was taken in August 1956 and looks very different today.
Magdalen Green is a perfect place for sledging. Here we can see Kenneth Burchill and Robert Darrock sledging at the beauty spot back in 1953.
Magdalen Green play park is pictured in 1963. The park is still hugely popular today although it has certainly changed over the years.
Finally, this photo shows a general view of Magdalen Green as it is filled with sunbathers and park-goers in the summer sun of 1948.
