Brechin boss Darren Dods looking for winning start at home

Last season, the Brechin City faithful had to wait until September 26 to celebrate a home league victory.

Now, Glebe gaffer Darren Dods is determined that the club’s fans will see their side get off to winning ways in their first League 1 fixture of the new campaign against Stenhousemuir this afternoon.

Unlike last season, when the manager was racing against time to build his squad, the 41-year-old has carefully put together his roster this summer with a host of new faces coming in and he believes his side are starting to gel at exactly the right time.

Dods said: “Paul McLean trained on Thursday night for the first time in five weeks but it is too soon for him to take part against Stenny.

“Gary Fusco is also unavailable due to work commitments but everyone else is fine and raring to go.

“Thanks to the Betfred Cup ties, we are really up to speed.

“The games were obviously very competitive and much better preparation for the league campaign than pre-season friendlies.

“They gave us a chance to work on things and hopefully that will show against Stenny.

“We brought nine players in this summer and I think they are really starting to gel.

“There is a good blend of youth and experience in the squad.

“However, we know it will be a tricky game to start our League 1 campaign. Stenny may have lost all four of their Betfred games but we have had them watched and they were definitely unlucky in a couple of them.

“We only beat them once last season and they have good players such as Colin McMenamin who is always a danger.

“But we are determined to get off to a good start and to secure that home win as early as possible.”
