Arbroath may have exited the Irn Bru Challenge Cup on Wednesday night, losing to East Fife after extra-time but Gayfield gaffer Dick Campbell admitted he was still pleased with his side’s performance in defeat.
The veteran boss had made changes for the cup tie after last Saturday’s league draw with Montrose and he saw enough to believe the Red Lichties can travel north to face table-topping Elgin today in confident frame of mind.
Campbell said: “Elgin have made a strong start and are sitting joint top of the league.
“Jim Weir is doing a great job up there and we know we are in for a really tough game.
“However, even although we lost on Tuesday night against East Fife after extra-time, I was much happier with the performance from the Montrose league game.
“I made five changes and they seemed to work.
“Ryan McCord is suspended for the Elgin game and Martin Scott came off at half-time against East Fife but that was just a precaution and he should be OK.
“So we will still take a really strong squad up to Elgin as we look for our first league win.”
