Raith Rovers sign former Dundee United and Hibs star to boost Championship title tilt

New arrival: Stanton
New arrival: Stanton

Raith Rovers have completed the signing of former Dundee United midfielder Sam Stanton.

The 27-year-old has penned a contract until the summer of 2024 after departing League of Ireland outfit Dundalk.

The well-travelled playmaker has also turned out for Arizona-based Phoenix Rising in the United Soccer League since leaving Tannadice in 2020.

Stanton is seen as an invaluable addition for the Rovers following a serious injury to Brad Spencer and Dylan Tait’s impending return to parent club Hibs.

Stanton ripples the net for United

Stanton, a former Scotland under-21 internationalist, emerged through the youth ranks at Easter Road, making 70 appearances for the Hibees.

He enjoyed formative loans spells with Cowdenbeath, Livingston, Dumbarton and Dundee United.

Stanton joined United permanently in January 2018 and went on to represent the Tangerines more than 100 times — scoring 12 goals — before leaving the club to embark on his adventures in the United States and Ireland.

Raith Rovers are just one point behind Championship leaders Inverness and currently enjoying a 15-game unbeaten run.
