Brechin boss Darren Dods looking to welcome back defender after head knock scare

Brechin boss Darren Dods is hoping to welcome Elliot Ford back to training tonight after the defender had to go off on Saturday because he was struggling to see out of one eye.

The former Raith Rovers defender had to be replaced by Darren McCormack on the half-hour mark of Saturday’s win at Stranraer after suffering a head knock.

Dods is hoping Ford will have recovered in time to rejoin his team-mates this evening as table-topping City begin preparations for their crunch game with third-placed Alloa on October 15.

The Glebe gaffer said: “Thankfully, Elliot is all right after Saturday.

“He took a blow to the head from a stray elbow and was then struggling to see out of one eye so we had to take him off.

“I think it has happened before and he has medication to take.

“It has settled down now and he will probably be all right to take part in training on Tuesday.”

The weekend victory at Stair Park was secured thanks to a solitary Andy Jackson goal, his seventh of the campaign so far.

That’s one more than the striker’s tally for the whole of last season and Dods believes that is down to the player’s application and the return of a Brechin favourite.

The manager said: “To be fair to Jacko, he came back looking really sharp in pre-season and that is paying off for him.

“I know we struggled for much of last season but I think he was still disappointed to only score six goals.

“I think he looks to net 12 to 15 every season and he is certainly on his way to doing that again this term.

“He took his goal really well to win the game for us on Saturday at Stranraer.

“I also think he is benefiting from playing with Ally Love and Alan Trouten who he obviously knows from his previous spell at the club.”
